Bauchi Emirate

Bauchi Emirate was founded by Yaqubu dan Dadi in the early 19th century in what is now Bauchi State, Nigeria, with its capital in Bauchi. The emirate came under British “protection” in the colonial era, and is now denoted a traditional state. The emirate remained under the Caliphate until 1902 when a British expedition occupied the capital without fighting. The British abolished the slave trade, which had flourished until then, and appointed a new emir, who died a few months later. In 1904 the emir who had succeeded took the oath of allegiance to the British crown.

His Royal Highness Dr. Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu is current and 11th emir of Bauchi in the leadership hierarchy, was crowned as the chief warrior of sokoto. Rilwanu Suleymanu Adamu is the 11th out of the 16 children of the late emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Suleyman Adamu. He was born on 14th October 1970 in Bauchi and attended Kobi Primary School, Bauchi between 1976 and 1982,Government Secondary School, Toro, 1982 to 1987,Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, 1991 to 1995 where he obtained a National Certificate of Education (NCE) and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, between 1996 and 2001 where he obtained a Bsc in building technology.

TRADE, CULTURE AND TOURISM

Bauchi state is bordered by seven states, Kano and Jigawa to the North, Taraba and Plateau to the South, Gombe and Yobe to the East and Kaduna to the West. The Southwestern part of the state is mountainous an extension of the Jos Plateau, while the Northern part is generally sandy. The Rivers Gongola and Jama’are crisscross the state, which along with various Fadama (floodplain) areas provide suitable land for agricultural activities and supported by several dams meant for irrigation and other purposes. Moreover, a substantial part of the Hadeja-Jama’are River basin lies in Bauchi state.
